605 assembled a group of talented local wedding vendors for this year’s 605 Weddings cover shoot at Convolo in downtown Sioux Falls. Katie Murphy, CEO and cofounder of Jane Rae Events, and her team put together a mood board dubbed “coastal grandmother” with Hampton vibes and a coastal color palette.

“In my opinion, ‘coastal grandmother’ is the incorporation and appreciation of natural elements,” said AshleyAnderson, event manager at Jane Rae Events. “Light wood, rattan, whimsical floral patterns, and overall understated elegance. The blues and the soft yellows fit perfectly into this elegant romance without being bold or overpowering and yet still making a powerful statement.”

“Dusty blue is trending again as is the coastal grandmother theme, which is really popular in home décor this year, so we wanted to incorporate both of those in this design.”

The crew knew they wanted to do something with heavy floral, and Anderson says they currently are loving dusty blue. They adorned the florals on a newer rental item, which was a modern gateway arch.

“Both the structure and the coloring of the light wood lent itself perfectly to what we needed for the fresh florals,” said Anderson. “The large installation was designed to be quite a statement piece while also framing our couple and really just providing a backdrop for the two of them.”

The Jane Rae Events team spent a few hours carefully placing each floral and greenery into place, and Murphy says the end result was worth every minute.“My favorite part about the shoot is taking a big step back, actual steps, to view what we have been working on and appreciate it,” said Murphy. “Sometimes when working on a project you can get caught up in the little gritty details. Taking a moment to readjust your perspective can help you realize the beauty is done and to be in awe of your work and team.”

Amy Boes, co-owner of the modern and minimalistic event venue Convolo, says the cover styled shoot was a great way to showcase the elegant, yet simple space they can help create for couples and groups of all kinds.

“Convolo was designed with an elevated simplicity that makes the space unique, but still subtle enough to be versatile for styled shoots and hosted events,” said Boes. “Jane Rae [Events] always has such a beautiful vision that complements our space so well, and the other vendors involved know just how to provide the right touch to bring everything together.”Megan Bertsch of Megan Bertsch Beauty specializes in HD airbrush makeup, and also wanted to go for a glamorous, yet timeless look.

“One of our favorite parts about being in the event industry and owning a venue is collaborating with the community and witnessing all of the magic that happens within the walls of Convolo. Partnering with other vendors and creatives and working together towards a shared vision is always an inspiring process for us.”

“I think my favorite part was the energy in the air. We were all so excited to be there and really worked as a team to make the shoot great.”

“I knew I wanted to go super clean and elegant with the beauty, so the cover would really stand the test of time and my brides could put themselves in our gorgeous model’s shoes,” said Bersch.

Murphy says styled shots are “freeing” to be able to collaborate and design something that they all envision together.

“Styled shoot days are always this mix of relaxed creativity,” said Murphy. “Typically, you are always against a strong clock on the day of an event. With a styled shoot, we usually have more time to create and spend time with great vendors while doing so.”
